10 Favorite Office Snacks

If I was a responsible person I would have pictures for this post. Everyone loves food pictures so it's practically a rule.  Well life is a little past crazy at the moment and I am breaking the rule. Sorry :(
Here is a picture of my desk situation tonight instead. It counts for something right?
Anyways...if you can't tell by the coco cup, I am constantly snacking/drinking (like fluids not alcohol...sometimes I wish though)
Work snacks are an essential part of my day and usually end up replacing a meal or two. That said, here are 10 of my favorite things to pack!

1) Carrot sticks. Bonus points if there is hummus involved.

2) Yogurt. The Greek variety is my favorite, but if there is a good sale on the regular stuff I will eat that too.

3) Bagels. I keep a jar of peanut butter in my office for these.

4) Oatmeal. We have a hot water dispenser so I can do one of the instant packets in no time.

5) Crackers. I like Wheat Thins and Triscuits a lot.

6) Cheese sticks. Just delicious. End of story.

7) Bars. I go through Clif bar and Lara bar phases.

8) Popcorn. Microwave popcorn is my favorite food for almost any occasion.

9) Candy. Ok this is not a healthy snack, but sometimes you just really need chocolate.

10) Fruit snacks. Again, not really healthy but 100% my kryptonite.

That said, I'm running away from my desk to go home and eat popcorn, watch a movie, maybe have a beer!

Goodnight!

10 Songs For Tuesday!

This is going to be the week I get back into the swing of things.  I say that every week, but that means I will eventually be right. I hope.
Today did not get off to a great start if I was looking for a good set up for an easy day.  Instead of waking up to the smell of coffee, I woke up to my dog growling at the coffee pot which was making sounds that I have only heard previously in my nightmares.  Really: it was like my cat getting sick mixed with a garbage disposal.  I presumed the worst, but luckily I found that I had simply forgotten to put the top down so the heated water wasn't making its way to the coffee.  Hallelujah. Day saved.
Luckily last night was hot yoga so I was mentally prepared for a pretty hectic and not fun day.
As a treat to myself for surviving this Tuesday (ugh, is it really not Friday yet?) I started working on a new playlist for my spring workouts.  I use Spotify at work, so it is nice to just add to the playlist throughout the day.  It feels like a little reward every time I stop working to move a song.  That sounds a little sad lol.

I am very music motivated, so when I am putting a playlist together I (obviously) like to use songs that I really look forward to hearing.  One perk of Spotify is that I can change out my songs all the time with no problem.  The downside is that I am totally lazy.  So, I like to use songs that aren't on the radio so I won't get tired of hearing them all the time!  I also only put them on my running/workout playlist so I can convince myself that I have to go be active to hear my songs.

That said, here are ten songs I am currently loving!

1) Reflections by MisterWives
2) Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene by Hozier (Take Me To Church breaks all the rules but still makes the list by the way!)
3) Scream My Name by Tove Lo
4) The Hanging Tree by Jennifer Lawrence (but not the electro remix version. the movie version. because I hate the version they play on the radio but the movie one is haunting and amazing)
5)Red Hands by Walk Off the Earth
6) Riptide by Vance Joy
7) All My Love by Major Lazer, Arianna Grande and some others
8) Easy by Son Lux and Lorde
9) Hold Back the River by James Bay
10) Devil's Spoke by Laura Marling (an older one but I never get tired of it.)

If you didn't notice, a lot of these are from the Mockingjay part 1 CD.  I apologize for nothing.  I am shamelessly obsessed.

If you have song suggestions please share!

Happy Tuesday :)

Breathing life back into the blog

Can a blog die of neglect?
Oops.  Life got a little nutty and I couldn't keep up with everything anymore...and I ran out of data on my phone which was pretty much the death stroke.

To attempt to breathe some life back into this space, I am kicking off with a ten things Tuesday post. Mostly because that is the level of thought my brain is capable of creating at this point!

This one is pretty random:

1) I was pretty sure they were going to come find me and tar and feather me when the cleaning people went in my hotel room last week.  I am usually very good about leaving things tidy, but I made my tutu for my Halloween costume and there was glitter everywhere. Like really everywhere. It was awful.

2) I am kinda freaking out because I think I have a minor calf strain and my half marathon is this weekend.  I can work through the pain and I know I can do it, I just don't want to do more damage before the full in a few weeks.  Tomorrow will be a test run of a few easy miles to assess the situation.

3) I am obsessed with an online store that a new friend introduced me to.  Apparently it is soon to be a real store in Nashville, TN as well.  It is www.vinnielouise.com and she seriously has the best stuff.  I am ordering this llama sweater as soon as it restocked!

4) I tried Nuun for the first time yesterday. Jury is still out on that one. My stomach tolerated it well though, so I will try it on a run next time.

5) I finally did Meatless Monday for the first time! This is partly due to the fact that I lived on coffee and donuts for a large portion of the day...but I did pick all veggie things at Panera for dinner so I call that progress.

6) Speaking of Panera, I have a new favorite! The autumn squash soup has been my go-to lately, but yesterday I tried the mozzarella and tomato panini and  was pretty blown away. Of course I also ate the pecan roll.

7) Are there support groups for veg-curious people?  Now that travel is winding down I am considering going at least part-time vegetarian.  But I struggle to get enough protein as it is, so I want a veggie coach. Or something of that nature.

8) I wanted to run today to test out my leg...but I started getting dressed and realized I did not pack a sports bra.  Go figure.

9) It's really interesting to be signed up for two races in November and seeing the difference in the way they are coordinated. Today I (finally) got an email about where packet pick up will be for the half marathon this weekend.  Two weeks ago I got my bib number and race info from the marathon that is at the very tail end of November.

10) Boyfriend can't go to the marathon with me. The Army won't let him go that far away.  So yes, I am pouting a bit, but life will go on.  Now it is time to find a friend to be my one person cheer squad/co pilot.

10.5) I am an awful blogger because I am total crap at taking pictures throughout the day!

Hope you are having a marvelous week!

Nutrition While Traveling

I love food. Love love love food. My travel weakness is going all out and eating everything that sounds good at the time.  It happens every year...and every year I have a rude awakening that makes me reevaluate what I am eating.

Let's start with the why.  Why does it matter what I eat while I am traveling? The first year I traveled for work I was convinced I was going to gain a ton of weight from eating out all the time.  Two important life lessons came from that. The first was that it was exhausting and frustrating to try to count calories while also working crazy hours and going from place to place. The second was that, after I gave up tracking it and started to just eat what sounded good, I actually lost weight.  Depending on your reason for travel this may or may not be the case for you.  In the office I usually sit still all day, on the road I am on my feet all the time. having discovered these things, I paid a little less attention to what I was eating.  Then it comes to the real why.  At home I am not a perfect eater, but I try to eat pretty clean and healthy meals most of the time.  The food that is sometimes provided and other times just easiest to get does not usually match up to that eating approach. Last week I kept going to fairs that fed us...lasagna, Chik-fil-a, greasy garlic bread galore.  I loved it and it all tasted so good.  And I figured I was running enough I deserve a few goodies now and then.  The problem really was that my stomach didn't know how to handle these foods. I was in pain and miserable. This is probably way more information than you want to know, but I was getting acid reflux like crazy and I was convinced I was going to get sick during some of my college fairs.  I took a day to really focus on eating things that I woud normally eat at home. I avoided anything greasy or fried. And by the next morning all my problems were gone. Ok, at least the ones involving my tummy.

The point I am trying to make, is that eating well is going to play a huge part in how you feel both at home and while traveling. It's just a bit more challenging when you are away from your usual food sources.

10 Tips for eating healthy while traveling:

1) Balance. Just like every other part of staying healthy, balance is key. If your friends/family want to go out to get ice cream or pie, you don't have to deny yourself.  It won't make you happy in the long run. That said, if they are eating pie and ice cream for every meal you should probably opt out of a few trips or your stomach might not agree with you.  I try to keep y meals simple and healthy for mot of the day, then have one indulgent meal.  Some days you won't feel like there is anything all that tempting, some days there will be multiple meals that sound great.  As long as you can find the balance that keeps you feeling good, embrace it.
If there's a diet that doesn't include Cowfish I don't want it!

2) Find your "safe" restaurants. I love Panera and the Whole Foods salad bar.  When I go to either of those I can find something that is delicious and will keep me full without the stomach churning grease and such. When I start to feel like I have overdone it, I will go to these places and it helps me get back to feeling well.

3) Embrace the grocery store.  The other day my lunch was yogurt, and apple, tea, banana chips and crackers.  Does it sound exciting? No. But it is what I would be eating at home and it had the nutrients I needed.

4) Keep snacks in your car/purse/fannypack(?). I have snacks on me at all times.  I can be driving somewhere and get so hungry I will pull over at the nearest gas station/McDonalds/anything I see to get food. And decisions made while hungry are usually not healthy. I usually just aim for whatever looks like it will fill me up. When I am in my office I pretty much snack all day, so having food with me helps avoid the hunger panic that sets in when I really really want food and have nothing on me.

5) Stay hydrated. This is another thing I am great at in the office and terrible at when I travel. And as we have all been told a million times, being dehydrated can feel like being hungry.

6) Watch out for sneaky bad foods.  I drink a lot of coffee on the road, but after reading all the things that are in a pumpkin spice latte, I do a lot more research on my coffee choices. I am a nerd so I enjoy researching things anyway, but I really do find it important to know that the "healthy" foods I am choosing while out and about are as healthy as they sound.

7) Do your research before leaving home. I like to find any local restaurants specializing in healthy foods.  I also like to find out which regional dishes I really have to try.  This way I can better plan out what I will eat when.
Shrimp and grits were a must in Charleston

8) Yelp is your friend.  If you don't do your research ahead of time, or you are like me and leave the research sitting on your desk/couch/binder at home, it is a great way to see the reviews of what is near you. And menus. I like to know what I am walking in to before I get there.

9) Track your macros if it helps.  If I feel like I need to get back on track I will track what I eat. I don't worry about tracking perfectly, I just aim to get close to the right percentage of carbs, protein, and fats.

10) Keep it fun! I "treat" myself to the healthy foods I usually don't buy for myself at home.  Again, the salad bar at Whole Foods and delicious (nutritious) smoothies. Also the kombucha teas with chia seeds.  Usually these are above my budget at home, but they are ofter cheaper than eating out.  The basic idea is to get the healthy foods you think of as a special occasion food.

So there you have it, ten tips for keeping your healthy eating happening while traveling...at least in my own humble little opinion!

Hope you have a splendid Tuesday!

10 Fall Favorites!

Well today I was going to post 10 tips on nutrition while traveling...but yesterday I lived on Starbucks and the lasagna they served for dinner at my college fair and I was feeling very unqualified to write that post at the moment! Maybe next week :)

Instead, I want to share my 10 favorite things for fall. And fall is my favorite season so I am pretty excited!

1) Chili. In particular this chicken chili. I found this recipe from My Home Is Rich With Love last year and love love love it. I didn't use the kale but might try it next time. Not my photo, it goes with the recipe!

2) Cooler running weather. Ok, my part of NC is a little behind on this and not cooling dwn very fast, but it's getting here!

3) Seasonal beers.  It is a proven fact that fall has the very best seasonal beers. My taste buds proved that and will be testing the evidence again this year!

4) Sitting by the fireplace. Bonfires are also great but I am so excited to use my new fireplace.

5) The clothes. I love boots, sweaters, and scarves. And hats. Fall means I get to start wearing all of these things and it makes me smile. (Oh and I get to see my mom's dog again soon!)

6) Halloween. It is one of my favorite holidays and I go crazy planning costumes every single year. Just disregard the 4 or 5 years in a row I wore the same witch costume back in the day.

7) Not having to run the air conditioning. It makes my eyes dry and it makes me sneeze.  Not having to run it also usually means being able to go outside without immediately dripping sweat.  Hallelujah.

8) Thanksgiving dinner.  Another holiday where I go fairly overboard. Last year I made all this food for myself and the boyfriend. Well he fried the turkey but the point is the quantity of food. My gramma has always cooked too much for every holiday and I am proud to keep that tradition alive and well!

9) Pumpkin soup. Since I seem to be on a food tangent, this is another one of my favorites.  I got hooked on pumpkin soup while studying abroad in northern Italy.

10) Mums. These flowers are just beautiful and they make me smile! If I wasn't living in a hotel at the moment I would be sharing lots of pictures of all the ones I have on my front porch!

So happy fall and happy Tuesday to all!

Motivation on the Road

Last week I meant to point out that I was going to be sharing a lot of my tips and tricks for keeping up the healthy lifestyle while traveling...but apparently I need some advice on getting things done while moving.

That said, I am going to kick off that idea today.  I am far from an expert on healthy living and travel, but I have learned a lot from my own mistakes and I have had a lot of time in rental cars and hotel rooms to think it all through!

10 Tips for Staying Motivated While Traveling:

1) Pinterest is your friend.  While this is true at home as well, I find I use it even more when I am sitting in the car or even back in the hotel room and feeling like I would much rather lay down and never move again rather than going for a run or hitting the gym.  Scrolling through my fitness board usually helps me find the energy to get up and go.

2) Go for an adventure run.  I like to scope out new areas to run that I can get to from my hotel.  It lets me see new places and can be a fun new challenge for your body if there are more hills or different types of terrain.

3) Find a local running club/fitness group.  This is not one I have been able to do yet but it is my big goal.  If I ever go to a town with November Project I will be the happiest camper of all.  Anyways, I like this one in theory because you get to make new friends and tell them sotries that all your regular friends have heard a million times.

4) Find classes that are not offered in your home town.  For me this is pretty much any and all fitness classes.  When I travel I reward myself with a fun fitness class if I stick to my training plan. It's also worth looking for places that offer a first class for free.  I plan to try a cycling class tomorrow morning!

5) Keep your expectations reasonable. If you set crazy expectations and fall short right out of the gate, you will be tempted to just give up all together.  Set bare minimum goals that are easy to reach. If you do more than that, great If not, it's not the end of the world.

6) Find balance. If you are eating salad and granola and exercising all the time while the people around you have ice cream and sit on the beach you will probably be jealous. And unhappy. Trust me; I have been there and done that.  Enjoy all the fun things in moderation (or not in moderation...you can always eat healthy when you get home)

7) Make an awesome new playlist.  I love music while running and getting to listen to a new playlist is about as good as it gets so I like to save them for times when I might not want to go out for my run.

8)  Pack your favorite workout clothes. I have some running shorts that have gotten a little too short to wear when I run near home.  Hotel treadmills are fair game though!  Seeing all my fun neon clothes in my bag helps :)

9) Have an accountability buddy. For me this is usually social media.  If I have to write about a workout I had better actually do it.  For you it might be a person at home or traveling with you.  A journal might work as well.  Any form of accountability that matters to you should do the trick

10) Remember why you do it. Usually when I lose motivation it is because I have forgotten the point.  I will not want to run because I am stressed and tired.  If I can make myself go for one run it helps me remember how much better I feel after and how much stress it takes away.

Did I miss anything?  Share your favorite motivation tips with me!
Sorry for the blah layout and lack of pictures.  I need to go run four miles now and had to choose between pics and sleep!

Ten Pictures Tuesday

I knew last week and this week would be challenging and exhausting, but it catches me by surprise every year.  Working in college admissions means this is essentially the week we work towards all year...and Friday we start back at the beginning of the next cycle.  I work for a small school with rolling admissions so there really is no break or slow part of the year.

I only ran 3 miles last week.  I did my first scheduled run of the week today but I am not killing myself over sticking to a schedule.  The real goal this week is to get through without getting sick and any miles I fit in are icing on the cake.

One of the perks of being a really small time blogger without an adoring audience is that I can disappear without hurting feelings.  It's not that I don't love to write this stuff, it's that I drag myself home and I am doing good to feed myself and the dog before crashing.  Last night I fell asleep facing the wrong way on the bed.

I promise to be much more interesting next month. Travel starts for work and I get new running routes and general adventures daily!

Until then, today's ten things Tuesday is brought to you by ten pictures from the past week.

Hank is a pillow thief.
Confession: I like to plop down on the couch after running. Even if I am super sweaty.

Another confession: I gave Hank the pb jar so I could get stuff done last night.

This salad from Whole Foods might be the best salad ever.

I got an iced coffee and new Toms i like them both very much.

I got busy and had Taco Bell.. Not proud. But it was delicious.
Don't be fooled. This is the lunch of champions.

Mellow Mushroom pizza is the bomb diggity

Running after eating leftover pizza is not the bomb diggity.

My cat is a nut. That is all.

Alright y'all....I hope you are having an amazing week. Hang in there!

Totally Random Tuesday Ten

Well I usually like to give these lists a theme...or at least attempt some continuity. Today that is probably not going to happen because life is beyond hectic. So here are ten totally random things I'm thinking about today!
Oh, I am also on a dog and gif kick.  These things might be my go-to stress busters!

1) I just looked at the calendar and realized our new students are arriving in one week and one day. I'm in admissions so that officially makes this a crazy week.

2) Travel starts in one month. Also crazy and also something I am feeling totally unprepared for.

3) For stress relief I browsed local runs and I'm so excited to sign up for the NC Halloween Half Marathon on November 1st in Spring Lake.  If you are nearby, come run with me!  It is supposed to e a very flat and fast course.  And Halloween theme...so that automatically wins!
nc-header2

4) Number 3 means I am now brainstorming costume ideas...which is pretty much one of my top 10 favorite activities.

5) I also need to come up with a costume for the Space Coast Marathon.

6) I'm hoping to start moving in a week and a half so I guess I really need to start packing. I do not enjoy packing at all. But it will be a good time to declutter.

7) I wish the rain would go away. Or at least be more respectful of my running schedule. I guess I need to find a treadmill.
Two dogs running on the same treadmill animated gif

8) The best part of rain is rain boots and puddle stomping. I don't have any right now but I really want some Hunter wellies.
Please wait, I need to play in the puddle animated gif

9) Watching new students get here makes me really miss being a student. Maybe it's time to get my masters?

10) My feet have been attacked by grown up shoes (and the blisters they cause) as well as a large dog landing on them and a bajillion red ant bites So tonight they are getting a little spoiled!

And here is Hank demonstrating how most people probably feel having read that.  Sorry y'all.

Battling the Runnning Blahs

I'll admit I go through phases - I will go for periods of time where I never want to stop running and it is the thing that makes me happiest in the world, but there are also times when I don't want to run and I can't talk myself into lacing up.  I've been in one of those slumps lately but I think I am finally overcoming it!
So today I've got ten things that help me get back to running happy. (If you have awesome advice please share!)

1) Take a day off from life.
Remember last week when I had a mommy-doggy day with Hank? That was a big step in the right direction for me.  It was a no pressure day just hanging out with the best four-legged friend I could ask for.  It helped me get my mind back in a better place.

2) Run somewhere new or somewhere special.
I went for a run in Tampa and had a great time seeing new things and running through different challenges. Then this weekend I went back and ran part of one of the trails I used to run all the time but will never stop inspiring me.  (No pictures because it started pouring buckets!) Both places made running feel more like a special adventure and less like a chore

3) New clothes/shoes
I like pretty things, it's no secret. I also think shopping is fun.  And I just feel more motivated to go for a run when I have something new to wear.  It's scientifically proven...or something like that.
The shoes are not new, but the skirt is. And I love love love wearing it so that gives me a little extra push to get out the door (and to do laundry lol).

4) Evaluate your goals and expectations
Many times when I am in a slump it is because I have set my expectations way too high and I get overwhelmed with trying to accomplish things.  Despite having never run a marathon I somehow mentally went from wanting to just finish my first to wanting to finish in less than four hours.  As great as it is to have goals, I was trying to progress way faster than what I could reasonably expect.

5) Set new goals if you need to
Expecting to suddenly be able to run several 8 minute miles in a row was doing nothing good for my confidence or motivation so I knew something needed to change.  I've started setting smaller and more reasonable goals for my weekly runs that I can easily monitor and change as needed. I set goals for a gradual progression rather than a super-human leap in skill level.

6) Make a new playlist
Although I am slowly learning to appreciate running without headphones, I am very much a music lover and a new playlist can make a world of difference. I get sick of songs and my tastes change (sometimes rapidly) so it's great to give the playlist an overhaul.  I use Spoitfy and love it to bits because it is so easy to change things up in your playlist (for free because you aren't buying all the dang songs!) or use a premade playlist.  I tried out the Bollywood Workout one the other day and it was so much fun and totally different from my usual.

7) Sign up for some fun races
As soon as my work schedule for the fall is set I am signing up for a half marathon series and a Halloween 5k in Transylvania County. It's ok to be jealous...but the better option is to come run with me :)
I love running in races so this is an awesome way to get my motivation back.

8) Bring back the "star chart"
You know when you were little and you had a list of chores to do and when you did them you got a star and after so many stars you got a prize? Ok my family didn't do that and we just had to do our chores or get in trouble...but I'm borrowing the concept here.  I am not above bribing myself to complete my runs.  For example, this week if I do all my morning runs I am taking myself to a yoga/spin/barre class.  I don't go often due to distance and cost so it's a fun reward and healthier than ice cream (which, ok, I eat all the time not as a reward).

9) Find some friendly competition
I love using the Nike + running app because it shows you how you are doing compared to your friends.  I am competitive in a majorly huge way and will do anything to beat my friends at this game (or any game really) so it is awesome motivation to get at least a few miles in.

10) Don't run.
In the past when I have been in a slump, I let myself stop going for runs but kept going for walks. The secret was to always dress like I was going for a run though.  I did this day after day until I finally just felt like running.  If I have tried everything and still can't find the willpower to want to run I will resort to this.  While it might feel like giving up, it has always brought back my love of running over time.

Ten Things Tuesday: slackers edition

I'm back! Life got a little (ok a lot) hectic and I've been running in probably a million circles while still managing to avoid my planned runs. Yikes! So today's ten things are split in half. Five things making life crazy and five things I've been doing instead of running.

1) Our WiFi router croaked in one of the bajilion thunderstorms we had. No internet is no fun.

2) Our plumbing is also not working and keeps getting worse instead of better. It started with the washing machine "draining" all over the dining room. The the kitchen sink was on the fritz. Showers have worked (albeit very slowly) until this morning. Pre-workday run was canceled when I woke up and saw this
Makes you want to jump right in right? Anyways the plumber is supposed to come today. Of course they were supposed to come Thursday as well.

3) It has been hot as all get out and humid to boot. I'm very much not a morning person, but by the time I get off work the heat index is over 100 and I'm ready to,lay in bed and do nothing.

4) On that note, I did a ton of campus tours last week and I'm going to go ahead and count all that walking in the heat as cross training lol.

5) And last for the making life crazy things is the fact that I have been mentally burnt out. I just don't want to get out the door for a run. It's been a battle but I think this will be my rebound week.

6) (aka part 2, #1) I've been traveling! The boyfriend and I went to see his dad in the Tampa, FL area for the 4th of July and had a blast. Lots of hours in the car and one the beach, but it was a great change of pace and scenery.

The run was hot but fantastic and the view was incredible. Then I went and soaked in some sun for the rest of the day!

7) I'm planning more travel! This weekend I am heading to the mountains of NC for a tiny bit of work and lots of fun time. I have already planned a running route to see of the 6 major waterfalls in the DuPont forrest...and a lake swim to finish it out! Follow me on instagram@ seejessrun711 for picture updates throughout the weekend!

8)  Hank and I had a great "mommy-doggy day" yesterday. He had a lesson then,we explored Raleigh, went to the dog park, picked out some new treats and a toy at petsmart, and met dad for dinner at Moe's.

We practiced our new "place" command and took some selfies in the car. Because we are cool like that.

9) I'm knitting a sweater and dreaming of colder weather. Actually my roommate runs the a.c. high enough that I might need it indoors before the fall even gets here!
It's gotten bigger since that picture but still isn't super interesting. The fun part is still to come.

10) And finally, I've been eating a ton of frozen yogurt!

As much as I love SweetFrog here in NC, we found a place called yogurt mountain in Clearwater and it is my favorite of all the frozen yogurt places I've been to.

And that's ten! So glad I've finally made it through a post and I am hoping the success will carry over to running this evening!

Hope you had an amazing holiday weekend!

Ten Things Tuesday: morning run edition

I got up and ran before work today...I think this qualifies as a genuine miracle so I am dedicating this post to my morning run!

1) I overslept. No surprise there really.

2) I got to run with my favorite running buddy and we practiced running selfies.

3) Morning is still way hotter than I realized. The "feels like" temperature is already 83!

4) Looking at my selfie attempts made me realize I wore my shirt backwards. Classy.

5) I tried out the "Running to Rock" Spotify playlist and really liked it.

6) Hank was worn out!

7) A banana after a run is great. Nora agrees.

8) Iced coffee is even better than a banana.

9) I'm still sucking at hydrating. I could really feel it this morning.

10) I know they are called ballerina buns for good reason, but I'd like petition to have them renamed "post morning run showered and don't want to blow dry m hair buns." Wordy I know, but so much more inclusive

Question: Are you a fan of running in the morning? How do you get motivated?

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Netflix= the anti-workout

I have no run to recap (for several reasons that will follow) so it is time for Ten Things Tuesday!

1)  I have been slacking on blogging lately in part because Netflix put up the second season of Orange is the New Black.  Seriously, if you haven't watched it you totally should.  Except when you find yourself avoiding all other activities because you just want to find out what happens next...I was not the one to make the recommendation ;)

2) The weather here is getting crazy.  The high at the end of the week is over 100.  Plus 100% humidity. Plus thunder storms that are shaking the walls.  This is a large part of why I didn't run today...plus Netflix...

3) I had this amazing salad for lunch.  I need to eat salad more often.

4) I knew soda cans could explode from freezing but I didn't know heat could do the same thing.  Is anyone else guilty of keeping a case of soda in their car so it's not really cold and easy to get to, but you can get one if you really crave it?  I am a total caffeine junkie!

5) I am an over-planner.  I have a couple trips coming up and I spent my lunch break looking up the best places to go running.

6) Summers in North Carolina make me a little bit homesick.  I miss cherry season and gardening and dry heat.  I miss all the fun things we got to do as a family.

7) North Carolina has it's perks though.  The beach is much closer and warmer!

8) This wasp had me trapped in my office when I was trying to leave for the day.  I am not allergic or all that scared.  I just have a natural desire to avoid pain...and it was huge!

9) This weekend we made baked garbanzo beans while the pizza was in the oven.  They taste great but I don't think I cooked them long enough because they weren't really crunchy.  Anyone with experience want to weigh in on what the texture should be?

10) Hank might sit in his crate all day practicing this.  He certainly has the judgey face down to an art form!

Alright yall.  It is time for me to head to bed.  By which I mean time to finish the last episode (already?!) of Orange is the New Black then eventually fall asleep.

Tell me a thing (or ten!) about your Tuesday :)
